Privacy Policy for TabSnap
TabSnap is a Chrome extension that helps users organize browser tabs, including optional AI-powered tab grouping. This Privacy Policy explains what information the extension handles, how it is used, when it may be shared, and how users can control it.
Information the extension handles
- Open tab titles and URLs, when needed to display tabs and run tab-management features.
- User-provided API keys and provider settings, stored locally in the browser.
- Saved home tabs, including tab URLs, titles, and favicon URLs, stored locally in the browser.
- Local analytics data consisting of website hostnames and visit counts, stored locally in the browser.
- Recently closed tab and session information made available through Chrome browser APIs.
How the extension uses information
- To show the user their current tabs and let them manage, group, close, suspend, and save tabs.
- To support optional AI grouping of tabs based on tab titles and URLs selected by the user.
- To save user preferences such as API provider, model, and home tab settings.
- To generate local usage analytics, such as hostname counts, inside the browser.
What the extension does not do
- It does not operate its own remote server to receive user tab data.
- It does not sell user data.
- It does not use tab data for advertising, credit decisions, or data brokerage.
When information is sent to third parties
If the user chooses the AI grouping feature, the extension sends relevant tab titles and URLs to the AI provider selected by the user, along with the user's API key, so the provider can generate tab groups.
Depending on the user's settings, this may include services such as Anthropic, OpenRouter, Groq, or another compatible API endpoint configured by the user. Those third-party services process data under their own privacy policies and terms.
Local storage
TabSnap stores settings and extension data locally using Chrome's chrome.storage.local API.
This may include API keys, provider settings, saved home tabs, auto-open preferences, and local analytics data.
Data sharing and sale
TabSnap does not sell personal information. The extension does not share user data with third parties except when the user explicitly uses the AI grouping feature or configures a third-party API provider for that feature.
Data retention and control
Locally stored extension data remains in the user's browser until the user clears it, changes it, or uninstalls the extension. Users can remove saved data through the extension settings or Chrome's extension storage controls.
Security
The extension stores data locally in the browser and uses the user's provided API credentials to connect directly to the selected AI provider. No separate backend operated by TabSnap is used for AI requests.
Children's privacy
TabSnap is not directed to children under 13, and it is not designed to knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. Any updates will be posted at this page with a revised effective date.
